About the Suncoast Tennis Foundation

The Suncoast Tennis Foundation (STF) is a community tennis association and member of USTA Florida and the U.S. Tennis Association. Our mission is to develop and expand amateur community tennis through educational and charitable programs.

The Foundation is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization with a volunteer Board of Directors and a part-time Executive Director. It includes all of Pinellas County. All residents of the County who are USTA members are members of the Foundation at no extra cost. STF operates on an approximate budget of $40,000 with 86% allocated to programs and services and only 14% to fundraising and administration.

With a commitment to developing character, self-esteem and discipline in both youth and adults through the sport of tennis, the Foundation provides opportunities to play tennis for all ages and skill levels. STF projects include: Ralleyball Tennis Jamboree for hundreds of kids each June; Elementary Fun Day for over 350 elementary school children each spring; National Tennis Month Block Party every May for both kids and adults that is open to the public free of charge; USTA Junior Team Tennis year-round; and in- and after-school youth tennis program among others. In our youth tennis programs, STF is utilizing the new QuickStart Tennis format that is an exciting new play format for learning tennis. With this format, any child between the ages of five and ten can start playing tennis almost immediately ¨C even if they have never picked up a racquet before!

The Foundation has formed partnerships with the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Suncoast, Humane Society of Pinellas, Big Brother/Big Sisters, Pinellas County Police Athletic League (PAL), the USTA Pro Circuit Women¡¯s Tournament, Pretty in Pink Tournament (to benefit breast cancer victims), Stroke for Stroke Tournament (to benefit stroke victims), First Serve/Courier¡¯s Kids (programs to benefit inner city youth), Girl Scouts of the Suncoast, American Cancer Society and more.

Our major fundraising activity, the Tournament of Champions, is held every January. It is an invitation-only event featuring the winners, semi-finalists, finalists and consolation winners of all the previous year¡¯s charity tennis tournaments held in Pinellas County. An invitation to the Tournament of Champions has become a much sought after prize! The money raised from the Tournament goes back into our community in a variety of ways. It benefits disadvantaged children and adults who cannot afford the equipment and lessons to play tennis. For example, over the past three years, STF has facilitated giving over 430 free refurbished tennis racquets and thousands of used tennis balls to elementary, middle and high school programs. We also provide financial assistance through scholarships to youth and adults who otherwise could not afford to participate in tennis programs.
